Former CIA Director and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo railed at President Joe Biden’s lax border enforcement policies and said because of them, American children “are going to die.”

In an interview with New York WABC 770 AM radio’s “The Cats Roundtable” on Sunday, Pompeo said the Biden administration’s approach to the border is 180 degrees opposite of what his former boss, President Donald Trump, took.

Pompeo told interviewer John Catsimatidis that Biden has essentially “given up” on border security.

“This issue of securing America’s borders is real. Our administration took it seriously. We certainly worked to build out the wall, but we also made sure that we knew who was coming in and out of our country,” he said.

“This administration has essentially given up. They have adopted the posture of the progressive left, which is near open borders.”

The West Point graduate and former U.S. representative from Kansas also “noted that there are two crises transpiring at once due to the failures along the U.S.-Mexico border, one being humanitarian and the other being national security,” Law Enforcement Today reported.

“Huge amounts of drugs are seeping into our country. It’s going to kill Americans. This is a humanitarian crisis and a national security crisis,” he said.

“When you have these porous borders, these cartels figured out how to make money. They figured out how to get it not only how to get into Texas, California and Arizona, but all across our country and build out networks,” Pompeo continued.

“Our local law enforcement, our sheriff’s offices are under enormous pressure because of these drugs. And you know, kids all across America are going to die as a result of the failure of this administration to secure that border.”

Earlier, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Fox News that there has been a dramatic increase in fentanyl smuggling since Biden took office and relaxed or reversed most of Trump’s border enforcement policies including the highly effective “Remain in Mexico” program which the Supreme Court has ordered the current administration to begin anew.

“I don’t know if [DHS] Secretary [Alejandro] Mayorkas and the Biden administration either don’t have a clue what’s going on or they are purposefully misleading their fellow Americans because here are the numbers. On the national level with regard to the Border Patrol, they apprehended last month—in the month of April, more than 170,000 people. That is a tenfold increase over the prior April where they apprehended about 17,000 people,” Abbott said in May.

“But I gotta tell you there’s a new dynamic about what’s going on at the border that Americans need to know about and that is increased apprehension of fentanyl coming across the border. Yes, there may be people coming across but there are dangerous drugs coming across the border,” he added.

“We had almost an 800 percent increase April over April of the amount of fentanyl that has been apprehended by the Texas Department of Public Safety. We have obtained enough fentanyl coming across the border to kill every single person in the state of New York,” Abbott continued.

In addition to American kids being killed by drugs smuggled into the country, migrants themselves are also losing their lives along the dangerous journey from their home countries, as The Associated Press reported:

So far this year, Panama has recovered at least 50 sets of remains from migrants crossing the Darien Gap, a number officials believe is only a portion of those who died in the dense, lawless jungle. In recent years, 20 to 30 bodies on average have been recovered annually, but this year Panamanian authorities say more than 90,000 migrants — mostly Haitians — have crossed the Darien Gap from Colombia and the body count reflects that surging migration.

“Biden’s policy is so wrong, not only in the sense of the law, but morally wrong, because his policies are motivating people across the globe to turn over their life savings and put themselves and their children in the hands of a criminal smuggling organization, to take a very dangerous track through jungles, over danger dangerous bodies of water, breaking the laws of multiple countries on the way, putting themselves at risk for extortion, assault, and many other forms of harm,” Jessica Vaughan, the policy director at the Center for Immigration Studies, said.

She added: “Everyone in the Biden administration and in the advocacy groups, and the NGOs that participate in this, should be ashamed of what is happening.”
